FOBB aims to be involved and help the community be a part of any coastal projects and EEL property projects. EEL stands for Miami-Dade’s Environmentally Endangered Lands program, which conserves over 28,000 acres of critical habitat such as coastal wetlands and pine rocklands. This program is an invaluable resource in providing local access to green space, flood reduction benefits, and water quality improvements to Biscayne Bay.
There exists a consensus that Biscayne Bay and its resources are not accessible to a large portion of the community and recreational users. Current kayak launches and boat ramps need to be improved and better visualization of the Bay is needed. This can be achieved through the creation of parks or using current infrastructure to improve these amenities. We aim to improve and support these efforts by adding benches and educational signage to provide information to new and returning users on how to responsibly enjoy the Bay.
We are currently in the process of installing multilingual signage, benches, and improving kayak launches at the Joe Farina Mangrove Preserve in North Miami. The goal of this project is to ensure that the Bay is able to be enjoyed by everyone.
