Dr. Philip Stoddard served five terms as Mayor of the City of South Miami from 2010 to 2020 where he wrote and passed municipal ordinances to protect local water quality from biocide use and promoted local understanding of pollution from residential septic systems. In 2015 Mayor Stoddard was appointed by the White House to the Governance Coordinating Committee of the National Ocean Council where he developed national policy for sea level rise. In he was named by Politico Magazine to the Politico-50 “guide to the thinkers, doers and visionaries transforming American politics in 2016”. Dr. Stoddard was a professor of biology at Florida International University from 1992 until his retirement in 2024. He now divides his time between fly fishing Biscayne Bay and the Everglades and supporting democracy through his organization We The People of 305.
